Young talents are imposed in the 1st race of the International GT Open at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, which decides the 2015 title.
The European Touring Car Champion 2012, Fernando Monje (22 years), alongside British Youth Program McLaren GT, Andrew Watson (20 years), have won the first two races of the season closing International GT Open, which this weekend held at the Circuit de Catalunya Barcelona. With this success, the Barcelona gets its first victory in the Grand Touring specialty, despite having premiered last Thursday at the wheel of the powerful GT3 McLaren 650S officer, who came to reinforce the structure of Teo Martin, who with the tandem Alvaro Parente and Miguel Ramos (third) was just awarded the 2015 title with identical frames.
A private test with McLaren on Thursday, Fernando made his first contact with the 650S GT3, 90 minutes from track to exchange views and knowledge with his partner for this appointment, Andrew Watson, who had driven the car in the GT Open in Spa-Francorchamps. They obtained the 7th fastest time. On Friday, both full advantage of the two free practice sessions which proposed the championship, being 8 at the earliest, and it showed that he intended one: to be the best. He succeeded Watson in the second practice session, achieving the first lap of the afternoon after switching covered: 1.46'461, being 0.467 tenths faster than his fellow squad Parente-Ramos, who signed a big campaign and were very motivated, in full pursuit of a title already won.
This statement of intent so clear, is concretized today. The team studied with Monk and Watson which was the best tactic for the two races on Saturday and Sunday, and before they could see note, a lot. Given Watson greater experience with McLaren, Fernando would first agreed to the Qualifying and the race of the first day, as the weather forecast gave dry and sunny weather, just the opposite of what they aim for Sunday, day in the order will be exchanged. In qualifying, the duo was fourth, but a very good start Monk has placed him third and after passage through the first corner. Barcelona has maintained position until the pit stop to change tires and driver. With new tires, Watson has reached the second position, and in the closing stages of race has reached a leadership that no longer would leave until crossing the finish line, taking advantage of the off-track rival who preceded him and who pressed forward from.
Fernando Monje 'I'm very happy for the victory and the title of our colleagues. In the Qualifying I made a mistake in a turn of the last sector and I broke the rhythm of the round when scored the second fastest time, something that I could recover to be a lot of traffic, but we were fourth. The exit to the race went very well and I know counteract the feeling unknown to me start with the deposit of McLaren completely filled, keeping the third position. Watson has been sublime and has done the rest. There are very good feeling with the car and with Andrew understand us perfectly. An excellent day, I can not otherwise qualify 'sentence.
The final meeting of the International GT Open will be played on Sunday at 14h in a second run to 60 ', the grid will be determined in the Qualifying 2am.
